• What is dental treatment?
  The generic term dental treatment refers to all dental measures that maintain or replace the health and function of the dental, muscular and jaw apparatus. These include dental fillings, root treatments, periodontal treatments, professional dental cleaning with prophylaxis and orthodontic treatments.
• How does dental treatment work?
  The dental treatment depends on the type of tooth defect. If a tooth is affected by tooth decay, the carious tooth hard substance is removed and a tooth filling is inserted. If a tooth is severely damaged, individually manufactured dental crowns are used. In the absence of teeth, these are replaced by dentures. These partial or full prostheses can be fixed or removable. Alternatively, tooth gaps can be closed by means of a tooth bridge. Tooth bridges are attached to the existing teeth to the right and left of the tooth gap or glued with a composite cement.

• What is paid by the health insurance at the dentist?
  The statutory health insurance funds take overfor adults two dental check-ups a year and a tartar removal. Every two years, the health insurance companies cover the costs of early detection of periodontitis.
• Is dental treatment possible under general anaesthetic?
  Dental treatment under general anaesthetic is possible. However, it is still a major burden on the body and needs to be discussed and clarified on a case-by-case basis.
• How much does a dental treatment under general anaesthetic cost?
  As a rough guide, one hour of treatment under general anaesthetic costs between 200 and 300 euros. The statutory health insurance fund only covers the costs of a general anaesthetic at the dentist if it is deemed necessary from a purely medical point of view.
